can i use bedding (shavings) as an arena footing?
i asked a question earlier about controlling the insane amounts of dust in the arena, and one response was to use bedding. since the barn owner doesn’t do anything around the barn besides give horses hay, i’d have to do this/pay for it myself. i need something REALLY cheap. i would only be using it from like now through february/march, then never again as i’ll be moving. shavings would be a good option because of this. although, i would think shavings would be sort of slick? the arena’s pretty small, so when we canter we take really tight turns. to me, this seems like it could be a dangerous footing if he loses his footing underneath him. what do you think? any more ideas?
i don’t want wood chips, i want shavings, the soft bedding you put in a horse’s stall
meagan: that’s the problem, i can’t water it. there is no footing at all right now. it’s dirt & more dirt. if i water it, it turns to mud and gets slick. i’m talking more about the finer bedding, not the chip kind. i would water that, saying as it wouldn’t turn to mud every time.
yeah that’s what i meant, sawdust ha. my horse isn’t in a stall so i’m not completely familiar with the different types of shavings. i don’t think you guys realize how small the arena is, lol. its tiny. i guess if it will be expensive though, i might as well scratch it.

I wouldn’t do it. To get as much shavings as you need to affect the arena is going to be very, very expensive. As someone above said, you’ll have to be constantly replacing them. Shavings break down over time, especially when they’ve gotten wet.
I also agree with you that shavings would be bad footing. They’re very slick and I just don’t think a horse would have enough traction to canter and turn on them safely. Sawdust shavings would offer more traction, but they’re usually more expensive than wood shavings and will cause an insane amount of dust.
I would try looking a different kind of sand. Try looking at a feed or supply store nearby, often they make thicker sand specifically for arenas.
Good luck! :)

Zurby. | Nov 21, 2009

I suggest wood shavings isn’t a very good idea in case you fall off the horse. It could cause nasty injuries.
Wight chemist | Nov 21, 2009

No, no no no NO. Sorry, but that would probably become a catastrophe, and it wouldn’t necessarily reduce dust.

It wouldn’t be cheap, because it would take insane amounts to even have somewhat of an effect on the whole arena. You’d have to continually replace it, etc, just like one giant stall. And shavings really don’t have that low of a dust content, so the initial purpose would be defeated it…. It would just be a mess.

Can you get a sprinkler system (I guarantee this would cost less than the massive amounts of shavings you would need), or some type of way to water the arena?
Meagan K | Nov 21, 2009

I recommend sawdust. The owners of my old barn used to put the wet sawdust that they needed for bedding down in the arena to get it to dry. That was sort of slippy, but once it was dry it worked really well, and falling off into it didn’t hurt much. Only thing is if you fall off funny you might get a mouthful of sawdust, which happened to me. I didn’t actually fall off, my friend and I were just jumping over the jumps in the arena on foot and I caught my foot on one and I fell. It was actually really funny. It also helped reduce the dust factor, which sounds weird but is true.

Reduced baby movement in the past couple of days, why?
I’m 27 + 3 weeks pregnant and my baby’s movements have been a lot less over the past couple of days, she is still moving but not nearly as much. Before Wednesday she was moving A LOT and gave BIG kicks throughout the day but now it’s changed to very small kicks now and then. I had a fetal trace done on Wednesday as I have to have my Blood Pressure investigated at the hospital and they said that all was fine but she still isn’t moving much.

Does anyone know what the reason behind this is?

Thanks

it depends how shes laying, if he back is to the front of your belly, then she’s kicking to your back so you may not feel them as much as if she was the other way around! as long as shes still moving enough and you ahve had it checked out then everything shoudl be fine!!

Natalie j | Nov 21, 2009

less room in the womb.. your baby is growing ;D if she stops movement altogether worry but if she just does it less theres no cause for alarm. any type of movement like a hiccup, stretch, turn , kick is good no matter how hard or frequent.. if the baby is eerily still go see a doctor and get the heart rate of your baby checked but if youve already gone trust they know what theyre doing.
jadesins | Nov 21, 2009

As long as she is moving that is the main thing. When I was having my little boy he had his days where he was very active and days when he was calm he then tended to go wild at night sometimes lol. My widwife always used to tell me as long as I felt at least 10 kicks a day not to worry (I dont know if this still stands as this was 5 years ago !)

If you truely are concerned then contact you midwife/health visitor etc and express your concerns - thats what they are there for and this might just ease your mind as it it stressfull worring if everything is ok.

Also you may find as your pregnancy progresses the movements become lesser as the room inside becomes less too!.

Good luck
z | Nov 21, 2009

It’s very early in your pregnancy. Right now all your might be feeling is fluttering, kinda like a butterfly. Don’t worry about the movement much until you are closer to the middle of your pregnancy. Just stay as healthy as you can
z_tai1 | Nov 21, 2009

It really depends where she is laying as to how much you feel the kicks. You might notice that you feel kicks stronger n some places than others. this can also be to do with where you placenta is laying.

she is also running out of room in there :) You will start to feel in an increase in the movements later in the last trimester, as every wriggle, kick and squirm is unable to be missed :)

I wouldn’t be concerned about her movement (or lack of) unless you feel less than 10 movements in 24 hours. If you do fee less than 10 movements in 24 hours, I would go to the hospital. :)

baby could have a sleepy period, she could of moved positions so you cant feel her as much, are you getting your minimum 10 movement and midwifes or happy with the fetal trace, then i wouldnt worry, as the baby gets bigger they have less room to move and do somersaults in your belly if your baby is head down, maybe from now on you may feel side to side movements rather then kicking,

Should I say something about this?
I broke up with my ex on Monday night, and since we’re still on good speaking terms, we went to a party together last night (we’re both in college).
On our way to it, he asked me if I had seen his Facebook lately. I said no and asked him why, and he said, "Well, Adam (his roommate) posted a comment on my wall that said, ‘Way to score that chick’s number last night. She was totally hot.’"
My ex isn’t the type to make the first move like that, so I gave him a skeptical look.
He said he didn’t get anyone’s number and said that Adam just wanted to make me jealous.
This really bothers me because I feel like Adam is just assuming that since I’m the one of broke up with my ex, I’m not upset over the issue, which is completely untrue.
It drives me crazy when people make those kinds of assumptions about me, and I’m wondering if I should tell him that I don’t appreciate it.
Should I?

YES. tell him. people need to learn from their mistakes.
I’m not saying that he will learn, but what do you have to lose?
He’s not a co-worker or anything. And if you and your ex are completely done then it shouldn’t matter, lt’s not like he’s going to still influence your ex of how he should think about you.

are the dramas that i gave up good anyways? besides queen seon deok?
i tried watching all of them but they all threw me off, either the story gets confusing or it’s a typical triangle love story (revolving around 2 rich or 1 rich guy chasing after a poor girl) OR it just drags.

& i heard SI is a simple triangle love story, & with the high ratings, is it that good?

1. My name is Kim sang soon?
2. Tree of heaven (REALLY SAD)

I think that was the title. LOVED THAT DRAMA <3
